Hedge Copier: Reverse Copy onto Your Own Broker, Sized to the Fee
A hedge copier is a reverse trade copier with a job: when you open a position on the prop evaluation, the software opens the opposite position on another account. Most tools stop there. They flip buy and sell 1:1, or by a multiplier, onto whatever slave you pointed at. That is how people blow a personal account that was never sized for a $50,000 notional, or how they point the reverse at a second evaluation and walk into the hedge firms ban.
If the prop account hits maximum drawdown, the hedge on your own broker is sized so the challenge fee is designed to come back. In Margin mode that scenario is also where the surplus is designed to land. This is not a refund from the firm, and it is not a guarantee: it depends on configuration, capital, and friction (erosion).
Prop Firm Armour is the hedge copier that does the two extra jobs: the slave is your personal MT4 or MT5 broker, and the lot is a function of the cash fee and the cycle mode, not of the sticker notional. It is also searched as a reverse copier, a reverse trade copier, and a prop firm hedge bot. Same machine. Named competitors that look adjacent (Prop Hedge, Prop Shield, generic reverse mode) are compared here.
Reverse trade copier vs hedge copier
Every MT4/MT5 copier with a "reverse" toggle is a reverse trade copier. Master buys 0.50 lots, slave sells 0.50 lots. Useful if you wanted a mirror strategy. Useless as a prop hedge unless 0.50 lots on the broker is the lot that prices a $300 fee at a 10% floor, which it almost never is.
| Generic reverse copier | Hedge copier (ARMOUR) | |
|---|---|---|
| Direction | Opposite | Opposite |
| Lot | 1:1 or a fixed multiplier | Calibrated to the fee and to Scaling or Margin |
| Slave account | Whatever you attach, often another prop | Your personal broker only |
| Who trades the evaluation | You, or an EA the vendor also sold you | You. The copier does not place challenge entries. |
| Where it runs | Often cloud or VPS | Local Windows process, no cloud relay |
| What it prices | A flipped trade | Max drawdown as a cash event on the broker |
If the copier also fires randomised entries on the challenge (a "Hedge Master" plus a "Hedge Live"), you did not buy a hedge copier. You bought a prop firm trading bot with a reverse bolted on. Different detection surface. Different product.
Why 1:1 reverse is the wrong size
Take the 2-step $50,000 profile used on this site: $300 fee, 10% max drawdown, $5,000 virtual loss at the floor. A 1:1 reverse of a 0.50 lot challenge trade asks the personal account to hold 0.50 lots through that move. The cash you actually need to recover is $300, not $5,000. Sizing the slave to the virtual notional is how the hedge margin-calls before the evaluation prints the floor.
Scaling is designed so the opposite lot brings the fee back (or a thin surplus) at that floor. Margin is designed so surplus lands there, and needs about double the broker deposit. Those two numbers are the hedge copier's entire personality. /start prints them for your contract. Margin vs Scaling is the technical source.
Hedge copier MT4 and MT5
Both terminals. Same Windows machine. The evaluation can be MT4 while the broker is MT5, or the reverse, as long as both are MetaTrader. Futures stacks (Tradovate, Rithmic, NinjaTrader) are out of scope. Cloud reverse copiers that talk to DXTrade or MatchTrader over the internet are a different category: they add a third-party relay, they often copy onto prop accounts (the copy-trading clause), and they are not fee-calibrated.
Local beats cloud for this job because the two accounts should not share infrastructure. No API key at a vendor. No signal server. The firm sees an ordinary evaluation. The broker sees an ordinary hedge.
What a hedge copier will not do
- It will not pass the challenge for you.
- It will not reverse onto a second FTMO, FundedNext, or any other evaluation. That is the banned pair.
- It will not make a 1:1 reverse "safe" by renaming it. Size is the product.
- It will not run your news filter, your 1,000 strategy combinations, or your anti-detection randomiser. Those belong to trading bots.
The procedure around the copier is the prop firm hedging strategy. The event it prices is what happens at max drawdown.
Risk warning (UK and everywhere else). Prop Firm Armour is hedging software for informational and risk-management purposes. It is not a refund from the firm, not income advice, and not a guarantee. Trading leveraged products can lose some or all of the capital you put on the broker. Configuration, capital, and friction (erosion) decide the cash result. Read the terms of the firm you trade.
