A prop firm trading bot is software that places the evaluation trades. Entries, exits, stops. Sometimes a news filter. Sometimes a "1,000 strategy combinations" randomiser so two buyers do not look identical. That is the product this query usually wants: an EA that passes FTMO, FundedNext, or a futures eval while you do something else.
Prop Firm Armour is not that product. It is the other bot in the same search: a hedge bot. You still trade. The software opens the opposite lot on your personal broker. If the prop account hits maximum drawdown, the hedge on your own broker is sized so the challenge fee is designed to come back. In Margin mode that scenario is also where the surplus is designed to land. This is not a refund from the firm, and it is not a guarantee: it depends on configuration, capital, and friction (erosion).
Keep those two sentences apart. A trading bot that also reverses onto a live account is still a trading bot. It just added a second detection surface.
What a trading bot has to survive
The profit target is the easy number. The hard numbers are the ones the payout desk uses:
- Daily loss. A bot that does not know the firm's daily cap will trip it on a news spike. FTMO-style CFD evals often sit around 5% daily / 10% max. The exact figures are in the contract you bought, not in a blog table.
- Max drawdown type. Static vs trailing vs EOD trailing changes when a sequence of losses ends the account. Daily vs max, static vs trailing.
- Consistency and "prohibited strategies." Grid, martingale, tick scalping, latency arb, HFT, and copy trading are the usual list. A bot can print a beautiful equity curve on those and still fail the review.
- Identity. Hundreds of customers running the same EA produce the same timestamps, the same symbols, the same SL distance. Firms share more data than they used to.
That is why "best prop firm trading bot 2026" listicles are a poor shopping list. They rank claimed ROI. The payout desk ranks rule fit and uniqueness. We do not sell a pass EA, so we are not going to fake a league table. The honest warning is: if the sales page leads with "pass on autopilot," the review is the product risk, not the backtest.
Are prop firm trading bots allowed?
On many CFD firms, a vanilla MT4/MT5 Expert Advisor is allowed and a list of behaviours is not. On many futures firms, automation is allowed with monitoring, or only on specific account types, or only through NinjaTrader, and copy trading is a hard no. Crypto names split on a different axis: frontend clickers vs API.
Those matrices go stale. AlgoProven-style tables are useful the week they are verified and dangerous six weeks later. Read the rulebook attached to the account you will trade. If the bot vendor will not name the exact clauses they designed for, you are buying a generic EA with a prop sticker.
Trading bot vs hedge bot
| Prop firm trading bot | Prop firm hedge bot (ARMOUR) | |
|---|---|---|
| Who places the challenge trades | The bot | You |
| What sits on the personal account | Nothing, or a reverse the vendor bolted on | Opposite lot, sized to the fee |
| What it tries to win | The profit target | The fee at the floor (Scaling) or surplus at the floor (Margin) |
| Main failure mode | Rule breach and payout denial | Erosion, under-funding, wrong floor type |
| Detection surface on the evaluation | Every automated entry | Your trading, which is what the firm asked for |
You can run a fully manual strategy with a hedge bot. That is the intended use. You can also, in theory, run a trading bot on the evaluation and a hedge bot on the broker. We do not recommend it, we do not support it as a product story, and stacking an EA the firm already distrusts under a hedge does not make the EA cleaner. The hedge bot page is here. The four-way split is prop firm bot.
The fail is still the priced event
Even a clean, allowed, unique EA still hits max drawdown a lot of the time. That is the business model of the evaluation fee. A trading bot does not change what the firm does at the floor: close the account, keep the fee. A hedge on your own broker is the only machine on this site that is designed to price that event. See what happens when you hit max drawdown and how the fee is designed to come back.
If you came here for a bot that trades, this is the wrong shop. If you came here because "prop firm trading bot" was the phrase you had for "software around my challenge," the product is the hedge, and the conversion screen is /start.
